One of my goals at the beginning of the year (when I started my own company) was to provide education, something I am truly passionate about. While I still have some ideas that will only become a reality over time, I am extremely excited to launch my first initiative in that regard.
What is it?
In 2019, I will be starting a BI & Analytics internship/mentorship program. This program is for one person only and we will of course focus on Microsoft technologies.
What will we be doing?
We’re going to design & develop an entire data warehouse (soup to nuts) for a non-profit company, using the whole gamut of Microsoft BI tools. This is not some theoretical exercise using Adventure Works, but an actual project with real-world use cases, requirements and challenges.
We’ll design a dimensional model; use BIML, SSIS and T-SQL to build an automated ETL process; create an Analysis Services cube and develop SSRS and Power BI reports.
When it’s all said and done, the non-profit company will have access to the data, reports and analytics they so desperately need to do what they do.
How do I qualify, and what will be required of me?
If you’re stuck at a company with limited exposure, itching to take your skills to the next level and learn what it takes to deliver an end-to-end solution, this will be an amazing opportunity for you to do just that!
I am looking for somebody who is eager to learn and willing to commit at least 8 hours a week of their own time for 6 months (preferably a year). You will also need to have a few years experience writing T-SQL queries and some Microsoft BI experience (SSIS, SSRS or SSAS).
I am unfortunately not able to take on complete newbies at this stage. The only reason being that the learning curve will be too steep and the time too little to learn everything from scratch. Yes, this project has a deadline!
What’s in it for me?
Education! You’ll be learning and developing in-depth skills in all of these technologies while being exposed to a real project for a real customer…it doesn’t get any better than that! I will personally be your mentor/educator and guide you along the way, helping you solve some interesting challenges and develop some very cool solutions to a few complex scenarios.
Experience! Once you’re done with the program, you’ll know what it takes to develop an end-to-end BI solution. We’re going to treat this like a real project with expectations, deadlines and high standards…everything you need if you’re considering a career in consulting.
To sweeten the deal, the non-profit company has agreed to give you a personal recommendation once the project has been successfully completed.
I’m interested, what do I do next?
If you’re interested, please send me an email at intern@28twelve.consulting with your resume or link to your LinkedIn profile (or both), and let me know why you’re interested. I’m going to invest a lot of my personal time into the program and need to make sure that I find the right person, so expect a thorough vetting process.
I’ll be accepting requests for participation until 10/31/2018.
Let’s do this!!
