The Thursday keynote was all about Azure Cosmos DB, Microsoft’s new globally distributed database platform.

I don’t want to speak for everyone else at the keynote, but my takeaways are that we’re about to see another disruption in database technologies that will require new skills and will provide a lot more opportunities. If you’ve been shying away from NoSQL or Document databases, you might have to embrace these technologies sooner than you thought…especially if Cosmos DB takes off.

As always, Rimma Nehme’s ability to relay extremely complex information to a large technical audience was nothing short of impressive. I’m going to need a week or so to digest all the information, but looking forward to what this new technology can become.

After attending a few other sessions during the day, my personal list of things to learn and do is also getting longer:

  • Powershell
  • Azure Data Factory
  • Biml

It’s been great fun so far, and I’m looking forward to the last day of sessions.
